The environmentally sensitive roadway way design provisions were developed in 2001 in response to growing concern from the community about potential conflict between preserving environmentally sensitive areas, transportation design and construction practices, and the ongoing need for infrastructure improvements.
The Pima County Department of Transportation (PCDOT), through the Native Plant Salvage Program (NPSP), offers governmental agencies and non-profit native plant organizations the opportunity to salvage native plants that will conflict with new construction. This program is a key component of the Department's strong commitment to fiscal and environmental responsibility in roadway improvement projects.
Pima County has had a %-for-art policy since 1990. The program integrates artworks and the ideas of artists into a variety of public settings, advancing Pima County's reputation as a cultural center for innovation and creativity.
Traffic volume data for many streets, crash statistics for intersections and roadway segments, and traffic control ordinances such as speed limits, stop signs, and school crossings are available.
