Web Page Layout

Standard Layout

All pages must conform to the following layout format: Clicking on the pima.gov logo at the top right on any page will automatically take you back to the main portal page (http://www.pima.gov/) and clicking on the logo in the upper left corner will take you to the home page of that particular department or area. This is a standard to be used on all pages.

Pima.gov logo

The "pima.gov" logo in the header should always be on the upper right hand corner of the page and should always link to the main Pima County portal page: http://www.pima.gov . This allows easy access to the main pima.gov portal site from any page in the county.

Whenever a pima.gov logo or the County Seal appear on a page as header, footer, on in the navigation bars on the side, they should always link back to "http://www.pima.gov".

Department logo

Every page should have an identifying logo (or text if you have no logo) in the upper left corner of the page which will be linked back to the home page of that particular area. This logo acts both as an identifying marker and as a navigation tool. Note that the Web Resources @ Pima.gov logo in the upper left corner of this page links back to the home page of this web site.

Placing your logo in the upper left will always let your viewers know both where they are, and how to navigate back to your home page (upper left), or the main county page (upper right).

This logo which appears in the upper left corner should not exceed 72 pixels in height and/or 150 pixels in width at 72 ppi. If you exceed these dimensions, the page format may become distorted.
Whenever your logo appears on a page as header, footer, or in the navigation bars on the side, it should always link back to your home page. Your logo may be displayed at any size in the main body (non-navigational) areas of the page.

Footer

All pages need to have a footer at the bottom of the page with links to the Disclaimer (http://www.pima.gov/common/disclaim.htm) and Privacy Statement (http://www.pima.gov/common/privacy.htm).

Navigational Areas

These are the standard areas for navigation in the web site. There are several options: left and right column as in the graphic example at the top of the page, left column only, or no navigational areas.

Main Body

This is the area for all of your text and graphics, which can be modified to fit your needs.

Style Sheet

Each area of the page layout is controlled by classes in the pimagov.css style sheet.

General information

Web pages should be able to resize down to 760 pixels or 10.5 inches without scrolling sideways. The header, footer, and body tables and cells are formatted to resize to fit the user's browser window. The navigation cell size is fixed and cannot be changed.

Do not add graphics to your page which will cause the overall length to be over 760 pixels wide. The concept here is to allow viewers with small monitors the ability to see a full screen without scrolling sideways.

The layout for the templates is table-based. Tables for layout can cause problems for users accessing via disabilities adaptive equipment; however a table set this simple should not be a problem. Try not to add a table inside another table because nested tables can cause problems for people "viewing" the page with disabilities adaptive equipment.
