The Procurement Department has been actively involved in the County's recent Sustainability Ordinance and Initiatives. Under leadership from the County Administrator's office, staff is participating at the top via the Sustainability Steering Committee. With involvement in the seven "S-Team" action teams, from Waste Reduction, Green Purchasing, Alternative Fuels and Transportation, Green Building, and more. Procurement's role in the acquisition of materials is widely known, however we also play a vital role in encouraging ecologically friendly purchases, consideration of total life cycle cost, and appropriate disposition of materials when they are no longer of value to the County. Participation in the S-Teams has already encouraged employees to start recycling programs for CDs/DVD's and Tyvek envelopes, in addition to current recycling programs for office paper. Learn more about what Procurement is doing to support the County's Sustainability Ordinance in future newsletter issues.
