Yvonne Brumfield is our Employee Spotlight for this quarter. Yvonne maintains the front desk reception area and is the first contact for our vendors here at Pima County Procurement. I feel so fortunate that Yvonne decided to come to work with us. She is genuinely kind, hard-working, intelligent, sincere and, by far, has the best customer service skills that I have seen. She is a joy to work with and a truly cherished friend.

Q: Please tell us what you enjoy most about your job at Pima County Procurement:

Yvonne Brumfield

A: The fact that I am employed is a plus but I enjoy helping people. My coworkers in the Procurement Department are a pleasure to work with.

Q: Tell us about yourself. Where did you grow up?

A: I grew up in Northern California the eldest of six siblings. We lived in San Francisco until I was four or five where my father was employed as a mail carrier for the USPS. From there we moved across the bay to Richmond, California where I stayed until I was a teenager. That's when I moved to Tucson where I graduated from Tucson High and attended Business School. It was then that I met my husband, Wally, who was a student at the University of Arizona. Shortly after that I took a position at Tucson Electric Power (back then it was called Tucson Gas & Electric) as a receptionist in the Purchasing Department. In 1975, I transferred to Customer Service where I performed various jobs until I retired in 1996. We have one daughter (Rasheedah) and two granddaughters (Imani and Endia) They live in Las Vegas so of course we travel that way at least every three months and they do the same. And let's not forget my new addition DOG - that's right D-O-G. He's my little Yorkie mixed with Bichon.

Q: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: I always wanted to be an astronaut or just very successful.

Q: What would be your ideal vacation?

A: My ideal vacation would be someplace warm where you could just lay on the beach, drink martinis and have a blast, ....or maybe a cruise.

Q: What book are you reading right now?

A: I'm not currently reading a book but the last one I read was "Fat Tuesday" by Sandra Brown.

Q: What was the last movie you saw at the theatre?

A: Tyler Perry's “A Family that Prays Together.”

Thanks Yvonne! I loved your answers and laying on a beach drinking martinis sounds like heaven right now. I also can't wait to meet your new puppy. If you have any questions for Yvonne, she can be reached at yvonne.brumfield@pima.gov
