Volunteer Speakers’ Bureau
You may participate in a training to join the NRPR Speakers’ Bureau to give one of the prepared digital slide presentations and to assist in hands-on activities at educational booths at community events.
There are currently two focus areas where we are seeking volunteers for the Speakers’ Bureau.
Buffelgrass Volunteer Speakers’ Bureau
Buffelgrass (Pennisetum ciliare), a fire-prone grass introduced from the African savannah, has gained a foothold in central and southern Arizona. Buffelgrass crowds out native plants, and can fuel frequent and devastating fires in what has generally been a fireproof desert. If left uncontrolled, it will irrevocably alter the Sonoran Desert.
We are in search of environmentally conscious individuals interested in joining the Buffelgrass Volunteer Speakers’ Bureau to deliver educational presentations to local community groups.
Living with Urban Wildlife Volunteer Speakers’ Bureau
Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation works in partnership with the Arizona Game and Fish Department to provide information about local wildlife and practical tips on how to discourage wildlife that may become a nuisance or pose a risk to you and your family.
Volunteers receive training to deliver a digital slide presentation and respond to questions from the public on the topic of Living with Urban Wildlife. With a grant from the Arizona Game and Fish Department Heritage Fund work is underway on an interactive exhibit with practical information about how to coexist with wildlife in an urban setting.
A Living with Urban Wildlife Volunteer training is planned for the Spring of 2010. Trained volunteers give presentations and assist with the Living with Urban Wildlife exhibit at community events.
