Welcome to Environmental Education and Interpretive Programs |
Community OutreachAs an extension to the environmental education and interpretive programs offered in Pima County Parks; staff and volunteers are out and about in the communities of Pima County. Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation joins with the Arizona Game and Fish Department to present Living with Wildlife events as means to expand opportunities for wildlife watching, and reduce potential conflicts between people and wildlife through education and habitat conservation. Invasive species pose very real threats to critical habitats in Pima County and some infestations have impacts in our local neighborhoods, parks, and even in your yard. Pima County is working in partnership with local community groups, state and federal agencies, county and municipal governments, academia, private conservation organizations, and concerned citizens to raise awareness of invasive species and to address the threats posed by infestations of buffelgrass and fountain grass. Trained Buffelgrass Action Volunteers map infestations, conduct Invasive Species Awareness programs, and lead neighborhood work parties to remove invasive grasses. Tucson’s River of Words: Youth Poetry and Art Contest reaches the communities of Pima County through a unique blending of science and art education. Youth groups and individual students are invited to participate in the exploration of water in the desert environment and express their understanding through poetry and visual art. An exhibit of the award winning youth poetry and art travels to several community venues throughout the year.
