Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation offers a wide variety of events and activities for people of all ages, interests, and skill levels.

Many of the events listed below have pre-registration requirements or limits on the number of participants. Please call the number listed for additional information or refer to the most current issue of Leisure Times.

Refer to the current issue of Leisure Times for events and activities at individual recreation centers and Pima County attractions.

Every Tuesday 7:30 – 9:00 a.m Agua Caliente Park Wake Up with the Birds. Spot cardinals, thrashers, hummingbirds, songbirds and raptors on a casual stroll through the park. Aquatic Adventures. Spend four days exploring a desert oasis; from the source of the water, to its properties, its quality and the countless life forms that depend upon it. We’ll spend most of our mornings outdoors, and afternoons in the Rose Cottage Education Center. Join in the fun, use cool science equipment, and do some artwork.

11, Sat 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Agua Caliente Park Sonoran Desert Kids Club: Dragonflies and Damselflies. They are strange and fascinating, living part of their lives in water before they take flight. 18, Sat 6:00 a.m. Tucson Mountain Park Sonoran Desert Weedwackers. Join the Sonoran Desert Weedwackers and do your part in restoring the health of the desert in Tucson Mountain Park. The volunteer weed warriors work to eradicate buffelgrass and other exotic weeds. Bring water and snacks, a hat, sunscreen, and sturdy shoes. For meeting location, call 520-615-7855 or email eeducation@pima.gov.
18, Sat 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Mount Lemmon Chill-out Family Excursions. Head to the mountain top with your entire family, explore new places, and experience the cool of summer on high at Mount Lemmon. The following programs are open to children ages 5 and up, accompanied by adults. Meet your program guide at Mount Lemmon Community Center and travel as a group to nearby sites for exploration and outdoor activities. Reservations required. Fee $10 per family. 25, Sat 9:00 a.m. – Noon Agua Caliente Park Cooking with Mesquite. Unlock the mysteries of baking with mesquite. Learn about the history of this native tree and the proper ways to gather and process mesquite pods. Nutritionist and cooking instructor Deb Hilbert will lead us in the preparation of foods made with locally harvested and milled mesquite flour. Reservations required. Fee $15. 25, Sat 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Agua Caliente Park Sonoran Desert Kids Club: Monsoon Animals. Thunder, lightning, and rain bring the dry summer desert to life. Desert toads and other animals emerge to feed, breed, and grow during the monsoon season of rain. Come and look for these creatures before they disappear for another year. 31, Fri 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Agua Caliente Park Insects: The Dominant and Fascinating Microworld. We encounter insects every day but since we know little about them they are often misunderstood. Join U of A “Bugman” Carl Olson as he shares incredible stories of the little animals of the Sonoran Desert.
