PIMA COUNTY EMPLOYEE WELLNESS PROGRAM

Walking is excellent exercise and is a great way to take an energizing break during the workday. Health benefits gained from walking include increased energy, lower body fat, higher metabolic rate, deeper and more restful sleep, and reduced stress. Walking can also help reduce your risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, and stroke. While 30 to 60 minutes of walking per day is ideal, you can still benefit from just a few minutes of walking per day. Wear well-fitting shoes during your walks. Don’t forget to protect yourself from the sun (sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses) and remember to drink water before, during, and after your walk. The average adult walking pace while walking briskly on flat terrain is 3 miles per hour. It will take you approximately 20 minutes to walk one mile walking briskly. Click on the links below for walking maps of Pima County facilities. Use the routes and mileage to design your own, customized walking routes.
The Tucson Convention Center Arena downtown is available for indoor walking through the City of Tucson's We Be Well program. Hours are 11 am to 2 pm, Monday through Friday. Use the arena entrance across from the ticket windows. One loop around the arena is .19 miles; a one mile walk is approximately 5 laps.
Thank you to Jennifer Psillas, Wellness Advisory Council member, Pima County Natural Resources, Parks & Recreation, for creating these new walking maps!
