StairWell to Better Health at Pima County

Taking the stairs is one way to be more physically active. Choosing the stairs instead of the elevator is a quick way to add physical activity to your day. Using the elevator less often also saves energy.

Depending on your building, you may be able to take the stairs:

• To visit a co-worker or department on another floor
• To exit the building (it's easier to go down then up)
• To walk part-way to your destination and take the elevator the rest of the way or even to walk all the way up to your floor
• To walk up and down during your breaks

If you're not used to taking the stairs, try adding a flight in at a time until you reach your final walking goal.

Help encourage others to Take the Stairs by posting a friendly message by your elevators or in your breakroom (click on the poster to open a printable pdf):

Did you know?...

...If you walked an extra two flights of stairs every day for a year you would burn enough calories to lose almost two pounds of body fat. (American Institute of Preventive Medicine)
