Health Coaching / Personal Training
FREE for Pima County Employees on one of Pima County's UnitedHealthcare plans.
Do you need:
• help designing a new exercise plan?
• specific ideas to manage high blood pressure or cholesterol?
• some nutrition advice?
• techniques to help reduce your stress level?
• ideas on how to increase your energy?
• assistance creating a plan to manage a physical health concern or goal?
A health coach can help you find lifestyle and nutritional solutions that work for you to address a health concern. A health coach will help you set short and long-term health goals and develop an action plan to achieve them.
Appointments are available at several worksites and over the phone. Appointments are 25 minutes each, booked in a block of three sessions, monthly or less often depending on your needs. After your first three sessions, your coach will help decide if it is time to book additional sessions. All appointments are entirely confidential.
All participants will be asked to complete an anonymous confidential progress survey at the end of each set of three sessions.

Have a Healthy Heart | Live Well
Watch Your Weight (lose, maintain or gain)
Put a specific plan in place to lose weight, maintain weight loss or gain weight that includes regularly practicing and updating proven weight management strategies. A coach can help you choose specific approaches to help you get started and make progress towards a healthy weight. Sessions may include weigh-ins and body composition checks.
Stress Less
With a coach’s guidance, develop and practice specific stress-management techniques to reduce the effect of stress on your body, or even the amount of stress you regularly experience. Sessions may include blood pressure screenings.
Be Active (exercise planning & design)
Put together a plan to increase your physical activity level or to make improvements to the quality of your current exercise routine. Whether you are looking to gain strength, improve your aerobic capacity or stay active despite a limitation, a coach can guide you through specific ideas and exercises for you to practice to meet your goal.
Eat Smart (nutrition planning)
If you are not sure where to start or how to make changes towards healthier eating habits, a coach can help you with ideas and strategies to practice on a daily basis. Whether you need guidance around emotional eating, balancing basic nutrients or making small improvements, a coach can guide you through the process. Please note that medical-related dietary concerns or detailed food plans should instead be directed to a Registered Dietitian.
Have a Healthy Heart (hypertension or cholesterol management)
If you are looking to manage hypertension, high cholesterol or other factors affecting your heart, a coach can help you with specific wellness strategies, lifestyle changes and condition management practices to accompany your physician’s advice. Sessions may include blood pressure screenings.
Live Well (with any health concern or condition)
Whether you’re looking to better manage diabetes, have a healthy pregnancy, improve your health assessment score or make general healthy lifestyle changes, a coach can help you set specific goals, objectives and strategies for you to put in place and modify as you move forward.

Testimonial from a Pima County Employee about her health coaching experience:
"A little over a year ago I set a goal for myself- to lose 50 pounds in the next 12 months. I had just started working for Pima County and just re-joined a gym. I had many tools at my disposal-work gym, the “regular” gym, and my previous knowledge of exercise and diet. I have been a marathon runner and triathlete for about 8 years up until 2008 when I had my son. Then things got hectic and being a single mom working full-time exercise fell by the wayside. I knew I needed some type of motivation and direction, but didn’t have the money to hire a personal trainer. It was then that I found the Wellness coaching program offered through the county. I signed up for my first appointment with health coach Raquel and made a list of goals and questions and went in desperate for a change. Over the next 10 months or so I met with her and she helped me modify my diet, work on emotional eating, change up my workout routines, and track my weight loss. She was very supportive and available to me via email if I had question or concerns along the way. Today I am proud to say that I am down 45 pounds, ran 2 more marathons in the last 6 months, and have gained the knowledge and tools I need to continue on my path to wellness! The Wellness Coaching has truly given me a new direction and helped me to get my life back. I look forward to continuing to reach new goals and find new ways to live a healthy lifestyle." |
