Benefits Offered by Pima CountyHealth Care HEALTH CAREMedical Insurance Plans include the option of three types of coverage
Each plan contains four optional tiers: employee only, employee and child(ren), employee and spouse, and employee and family. The County pays the majority of the premium share for the employee as well as for the employee and his or her eligible family members. Dental Insurance Plans include the option of a dental maintenance organization (DMO) or indemnity type of coverage. The County contributes an established amount for each level of dental coverage. The same tiers are available as listed in the medical insurance plans. Pre-tax Premium Plan. The Internal Review Service (IRS) allows employees to establish their share of the payment of the premiums for certain benefits on a pre-tax basis which increases the employee's spendable income. Domestic Partner Coverage is available. The Retiree Insurance Program allows those who retire from the County to continue medical and dental coverage at group rates. PAID LEAVEAnnual Leave is accrued at 12 days for the first three years with increased accruals based on years of service to a maximum of 21 days. Sick Leave is accrued at 12 days per year with the ability to transfer an established number of unused sick leave hours to annual leave at the end of year, established by the employee's anniversary date. Ten-paid holidays are recognized in addition to the accrued leave above. PERSONALIZED BENEFITSBasic Life Insurance Coverage. The County pays for $10,000 worth of basic life insurance coverage for all eligible employees, to include a $10,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD &D) policy. Supplemental Life Insurance Coverage is available to and fully payable by eligible employees in multiples of the employee's salary for as much as four times the employee's salary not to exceed $500,000. An additional AD&D policy may be elected. Dependent Life Insurance Coverage for the eligible employee's spouse and eligible children may also be elected and is fully payable by the employee. Deferred Compensation Plans are offered by three independent carriers allowing the employee to contribute a portion of his or her salary to supplement retirement savings on a pre-tax basis. Flexible Spending Accounts allow the employee to deposit money in an account(s) on a pre-tax basis. The funds which are set aside are used by the employee for reimbursement of eligible out-of-pocket costs incurred in the areas of health (medical, dental and/or vision), dependent care, parking and/or transit. The Educational Reimbursement Program assists employees by providing financial support when the employee takes job-related courses to become more proficient at work, to upgrade skills and/or to improve the quality of County service. Short Term Disability Insurance is an optional benefit to the employee. The employee pays the full cost. This plan pays a portion of the employee's wages for a period of up to six months when he or she is out due to an injury or illness. Legal and Financial Planning Services is optional and provides paid-in-full legal and financial planning services for the employee by an outside carrier. The employee pays the full cost. MANDATED PROGRAMSRetirement Plan participation is mandatory for all eligible employees who are covered by one of the Arizona State Retirement System plans. This is a defined benefit plan in which the County and the employee contribute a certain percentage based on the employee's salary. Long term disability coverage, available on most plans, is a benefit which pays an employee when he or she is out of work due to illness or injury for more than six months. Workers' Compensation and Occupational Disease Benefits are available for employees and cover accidental injury, disability, disease or death which occurs as a result of employment and is job-related. The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is mandated by federal law to allow a maximum of 12 weeks of unpaid leave for each one-year period for the birth or adoption of a child, the employee's own serious health condition or the serious health condition of an employee's immediate family member. The employee may elect to offset this leave with accrued annual and/or sick leave hours. The Employee Assistance Program provides free, confidential, short-term counseling and referral services for the employee and his or her family. The County pays the full cost.
