Star Party
What: Have you ever gazed up at the stars and wondered about the twinkling above, or what mysterious heavenly bodies are hidden from view? Join us at a star party, where we’ll have telescopes set up for celestial viewing.
Date: Friday, May 2
Time: 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Where: Pima County Tucson Mountain Park, Ironwood Picnic Area, 1548 S. Kinney Road Ironwood Picnic Area is 3.9 miles north of Ajo Way or 1.5 miles south of Gates Pass Road.

Sonoran Desert Kids Club: Family Astronomy—Night Sky
What: Learn about stars, planets and constellations. After completing several activities, we will, weather permitting, observe the night sky using binoculars and telescopes.

Weekend Wildlife Watch
What: From turtles basking in the sun, to great horned owls roosting in the palms, there is always something to see at the park. Learn simple ways to spot wildlife at the park and come back on your own to make new discoveries.

Twilight Walk at Feliz Paseos Park
What: Take a relaxing, naturalist-guided stroll through the park and experience the quiet of the desert at dusk. You’ll also discover why many desert creatures are active at this time of day. One-hour guided walks on paved and gravel paths are open to all ages and abilities.

Life in an Oasis
What: Enjoy a guided tour of the historic buildings and landscape to understand how the year-round presence of water from the spring shaped the lives of people and how people shaped the land.

Desert Plants and their Uses
What: This leisurely walk on mostly level trails will be guided by naturalist and Pima County Educator, Meg Quinn. You will learn about the variety of uses of our common desert plants for food, building materials, fiber and medicines. There will be desert food tastings after the walk. No fee. Reservations required.

Bird Watching Basics
What: Agua Caliente Park offers bird watching at its best with spring fed ponds for water birds, flanked by lush riparian and desert habitats that attract diverse birdlife. Enjoy a naturalist-guided bird walk designed especially for beginning birders of all ages, including families. Binoculars are available for use during the program or bring your own.

What: We will look for saguaro flowers, nectar feeding bats, and other night creatures in the “Cactus Hotel” neighborhood.

Sonoran Desert Weedwackers
What: Join the all-volunteer Sonoran Desert Weedwackers and do your part in restoring the health of the desert in Tucson Mountain Park. Each month the volunteer weed warriors work to eradicate buffelgrass and other exotic weeds. Coordinators will provide instruction on plant identification and proper techniques for removal. Gloves and digging bars provided. Bring water and snacks; a hat, sunscreen and sturdy shoes. If you plan to attend, please contact eeducation@pima.gov or call 615-7855.

Foods of the Desert
What: Discover the bounty of desert foods that are seasonally available in the Sonoran Desert. Learn how these foods were traditionally prepared by native peoples and how they are used today in modern recipes. This indoor presentation will include discussions of mesquite pods, cactus fruit, flower buds of cholla, and young pads of prickly pear, agave hearts and more. No fee or reservation required.

Historic Agua Caliente Ranch House Gallery
What: Artist Debra Irons presents At Home in Two Worlds, a showing of watercolor paintings that express the small town ambiance of Vermont and the colorful flora of the Arizona Desert and Landscape.
