ECAP Campaign Wrap-Up
Another successful ECAP campaign has ended. Pima County employees who chose to donate to one of the many charities around town were tremendously generous in their contribution. As in previous years, employees exceeded the campaign goal beyond all expectations.
This year's ECAP target was again $400,000. It was same as last year because the ECAP steering committee wanted it to be realistic and achievable. Although employees have always been generous, we thought that exceeding the goal by $60,000 in the 2006-2007 campaign was a wonderful fluke! Well, this year the employees exceeded the goal by $86,321.

Mr. Atha presented the ECAP and United Way agencies with a check symbolic of the final tally of $481,321. Pima County employees are an amazing group of caring individuals. On behalf of all the non-profit agencies, thank you very much.

Larry Finuff, Regional President of Wells Fargo Bank and United Way Campaign Cabinet Chair, spoke about the importance of ECAP and thanked the employees for an incredible campaign. Nancy Schlegel, Senior Vice-President, United Way, concurred.
Matt Ellis, Director of Resource Development at the United Way, also thanked the solicitors and employees for their commitment to the ECAP agencies, and the community.

Over 100 solicitors attended the appreciation luncheon held January 23 at the Kino Recreation Center. Jason's Deli catered the luncheon, which included an excellent selection of turkey, chicken, and roast beef sandwiches, as well as vegetarian spinach wraps.

During registration, each solicitor received a raffle ticket for drawings for door prizes. Four $50 gift cards to either Tucson or Park Place Malls were won, in addition to other prizes, including artwork, mugs, and pens. Rick Lintner, an employee in the Recorder's Office, donated a beautiful handmade piece of jewelry.
Departments received gold, silver, or bronze plaques in recognition of exceptionally generous donations of its employees. The remaining departments received a copper certificate for participating. (See ECAP 2007-2008 Department Awards).
Two departments received a trophy for outstanding accomplishment in a specific area.

Melissa Hjelle, Facilities Management, received the Early Bird trophy for the second consecutive year. This trophy goes to the first solicitor who submits their pledge forms, with the least number of errors.

The Recorder's Office was the recipient of the GOAL trophy for the most significant improvement over last year's campaign. Employee participation more than doubled, from 35% last campaign, to 87% this time. Martha Green and Rick Lintner were presented the trophy. Congratulations to both departments.

Shelley Rose, ECAP Steering Committee member, received a beautiful plaque from the Steering Committee for her teamwork and selfless commitment to the Committee and community. For the past four years, Shelley has made all the centerpieces and decorations for the campaign kickoff events and the recognition events, often on her own time. We appreciate and respect her talents.

The ECAP campaign has gained positive prominence since it first began in 1969 or 1979, take your pick (there is a discrepancy concerning the year it actually began). The first documented campaign results are for the 1980-81 campaign, in which employees contributed $52,539. We have come a long way!

Let's continue to serve our community by making each campaign better than the last one. Maintaining our support of the nonprofit charities allows them to continue to exist, especially the small, less known agencies.
Rosie Joe, ECAP Chair
Again, thank you for your contribution to ECAP.
