F. Ann Rodriguez Welcomes President Obama to Arizona
The Honorable F. Ann Rodriguez was part of a delegation that welcomed President Obama to Arizona at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix last month. She had been privileged to receive a phone call from the White House requesting that she be part of a small party of 15 who met the President prior to his public address at ASU stadium on Wednesday, May 13.
Ms. Rodriguez was the first elected official in Pima County to publicly endorse Barack Obama for his presidential bid.
She was also an elected delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO in August 2008.
The President has made numerous trips to Maricopa County; Ms. Rodriguez is still working on bringing him to Pima County!

The Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (PCRWRD) is among one of the first government agencies in the State of Arizona to obtain stimulus funding from the federal government for improvements to its wastewater system, to construct the Plant Interconnect Project.

Arizona Water and Pollution Control Association Recognizes Pima County
The Arizona Water Pollution Control Association recently acknowledged Water Policy Manager Kathleen Chavez, P.E. with the Environmental Steward Award. The Award is given to anyone who has contributed significantly to the protection and/or enhancement of the water and wastewater environment in Arizona. AWPCA Vice President, John Warner, noted Ms. Chavez’s role in the Ed Pastor Kino Environmental Restoration Project (KERP).
KERP is a multi-departmental effort among the Regional Flood Control District, Stadium District, Natural Resources Parks and Recreation and the Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department, as well as the US Army Corps of Engineers. KERP is a multi-purpose facility designed to create native ecosystems, harvest urban storm water and control flooding.

Intrepid Volunteers Battle Invaders
Volunteers from the Pima County Regional Flood Control District (RFCD), The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the Tucson Audubon Society worked with private property owners on Saturday, May 30th, to remove an invasive plant known as Arundo donax (giant reed) from the Bear Canyon Wash. RFCD, the Tucson Audubon Society and The Nature Conservancy provided the workers, along with equipment needed to remove the cane and rhizomes, and RFCD removed it from the site.
Arundo is a tall grass that resembles bamboo. It was originally imported into the U.S. from the Mediterranean for use as erosion control and as a windbreak along irrigation canals, to reduce damage to crops.

Nancy Wright Says Good-Bye… for Now

As she swirled back and forth in her office chair in her familiar way that Vital Records staff hold dear, Nancy Wright said her favorite part of her job as Deputy Registrar at the Pima County Vital Records Office is interacting with the children, who sometimes call her “nana”, and the babies who come in with their parents for birth certificates.

The Pima County Employees Combined Appeal Program (ECAP) is recruiting a few good men and women to serve on the Steering Committee.
As a Steering Committee member, you will help plan the annual ECAP fundraising campaign. That’s where the fun begins. Using your skills as a party planner, you would work with the committee to plan the Kickoff and Appreciation Luncheon events.
But, the fun doesn't stop there. You would use your talents to assist with training the ECAP solicitors, secure entertainment and speakers for the two annual events, and many other cool responsibilities.
Another exciting benefit is that you have the opportunity to give back to the community.
