Tarantulas, and Scorpions, and Centipedes, Oh My!
What: These and other venomous creatures live all around us, but rarely cause us harm. Learn about some of the fascinating adaptations of these desert denizens, how they produce venom, and when they use it. An evening nature walk will follow the indoor presentation, so bring a flashlight. Reservations required.

Searching For Signs of Wildlife

Sonoran Desert Kids Club: Family Astronomy—Moon Mission
What: We will do family activities to learn about the Earth’s nearest neighbor, the Moon, and weather permitting, observe the moon using binoculars and telescopes.

Twilight Nature Walk at Feliz Paseos Park
What: Take a relaxing, naturalist-guided stroll through the park and experience the quiet of the desert at dusk. You’ll also discover why many desert creatures are active at this time of day. One-hour guided walks on paved and gravel paths are open to all ages and abilities.

Discovering Nature’s Treasures
What: We’ll explore the wonders of Agua Caliente Park using a map and compass to find our way from one treasure to the next. A Jr. Naturalists’ backpack, filled with other special tools for science study, will be used to enhance hands-on discovery.

Sonoran Desert Weedwackers
What: Join the all-volunteer Sonoran Desert Weedwackers and do your part in restoring the health of the desert in Tucson Mountain Park. Each month the volunteer weed warriors work to eradicate buffelgrass and other exotic weeds. Coordinators will provide instruction on plant identification and proper techniques for removal. Gloves and digging bars provided. Bring water and snacks; a hat, sunscreen and sturdy shoes. If you plan to attend, please contact eeducation@pima.gov or call 615-7855.

What: Animals use their senses to explore their surroundings, look for food and even find a mate! Use your senses to learn about the plants and animals that call the Sonoran Desert home. Saguaro Harvest Workshop
What: Participate in the ancient tradition of Saguaro Harvest as practiced by the local Tohono O’odham. Workshop leader Stella Tucker will guide the group on harvesting techniques and together we will partially process the fruit for syrup. Everyone will have a chance to taste the saguaro fruit and other foods of the desert. Workshop fee is $20 and reservations are required. Call 615-7855 or email: eeducation@pima.gov

Historic Agua Caliente Ranch House Gallery
What: Amazing Arizona. Photojournalists Forrest Davis and Lynn Rogalsky capture the light, color, and splendor of Arizona. Recent impressions show the nature, places, and people of Amazing Arizona.

What: This casual stroll through Agua Caliente Park is geared more toward beginning and intermediate birders. Spot cardinals, thrashers, hummingbirds, songbirds and raptors nestled among the mesquites and palms. Binoculars are available for use during the walk or bring your own.

What: As the world’s only flying mammals, they eat tons of mosquitoes, some prey on scorpions, and others drink nectar. What: Plan now to plant a garden habitat that will attract an abundance of bird species to your yard. By providing the ideal plants for food, cover, and nesting, you can easily attract a variety of birds. This indoor presentation will emphasize native and low water use plants. Information on flowering season, water use and light requirements will be included.

2nd Annual Breakfast with the PACC

Join Pima Animal Care Center for the 2nd Annual Breakfast with the PACC on Saturday, July 12th. PACC is overflowing with fabulous cats, dogs, puppies, and kittens. There will be great food, music, a jumping castle, story time, raffle, yard sale, and much more. Outside activities from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pet adoptions with special discounts from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
