A Mass for Maeveen will be held
Saturday, November 14th, at 10AM, at
St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church,
5150 N. Valley View Road.

The same afternoon, honoring Maeveen's specific wish, we will celebrate her life at the Tucson Audubon Society's Mason Center for Ironwood Preservation and Environmental Education, located on the southwest corner of Hardy and Thornydale Roads. All are welcome! The celebration will begin with a potluck picnic lunch at 1 pm, followed by a memorial service and shared story telling starting at 2:30 sharp. Please park along Hardy Road or at the Tortolita Middle School lot. Be sure to dress comfortably for the desert and bring a chair, if you can. Paper plates, cups, utensils and napkins will be provided. For more information and to RSVP, contact Chris at cmcvie@desertwatch.org .

Donations in Maeveen's memory may be made to the Maeveen Marie Behan Conservation Lands System (MMB CLS) Memorial Fund care of the Arizona Land and Water Trust (ALWT). With the direction of Dr. Harry Goldwasser, Maeveen's husband, this fund will be restricted to erecting her monument in Arthur Pack Park, to acquiring CLS lands for conservation in perpetuity, and to establishing markers honoring her within those CLS parcels that are conserved in perpetuity. Increase in "Healthy" Air Quality Days Remains a Mystery

This summer, Tucson area residents had more days when the air quality was rated in the good range for ground-level ozone pollution when compared to the six previous summers, Pima County Department of Environmental Quality (PDEQ) reports.  A variety of factors were researched by PDEQ staff to explain the decrease in number of days with moderate ozone pollution, including temperatures, rainfall, solar radiation, cloud cover, gasoline & diesel sales, relative humidity, and wind speed. However, none of these normally influential variables seemed to have a direct causal relationship to the lower ozone levels this summer.

Car Care: Save Resources

Last month was National Car Care Month, but individuals can still conserve fuel, save money, and spare the air by trying a few handy tips. Pima County Department of Environmental Quality encourages good vehicle maintenance and offers some driving tips that will help your budget as gasoline costs continue to rise. Millions of dollars worth of gasoline are wasted each day in the United States, due to simple neglect by vehicle owners. Easy preventative actions such as tightening gas caps, properly inflating tires, replacing worn spark plugs and dirty air filters, and driving thoughtfully will help save fuel and reduce air pollution.
