Permitting is a critical method by which PDEQ ensures the quality of Pima County’s air and water. Permitting allows PDEQ staff to review, inspect, and work with the public and local businesses to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Traditionally, the permitting process has been bogged down by a paper-based and labor-intensive system. Recent efforts to improve staff efficiency and access to information have updated these processes to electronic database systems that vastly reduced paper usage and costs, and increased the overall efficiency of the permitting and inspection process.
And now access to these databases is open for businesses and the public to review. Instead of calling PDEQ to find out whether a dry cleaner has a permit, anyone can now go online 24-hours a day and get real-time information about the permit and even see rules and regulations with which the business must comply.
The initial release of permit access will include Water, Sewer, Septic, Subdivision projects, and Air Quality permits for businesses such as dry cleaners, sand and gravel facilities, mines, and power generation.
The search application is available at www.deq.pima.gov\records and is currently accessible via the link on the PDEQ home page.
