Tucson, Arizona (February 1, 2008) - Effective today, Pima County Department of Environmental Quality (PDEQ) Solid Waste Division will be accepting clean green waste from Pima County residents during regular working hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays at the Catalina Transfer Station at 14425 N. Oracle Rd. This collection of clean green waste will continue until July 31, 2008. PDEQ is planning on chipping the collected material in August and having it available for use by the public as mulch in September.
Clean green waste includes grass clippings, tree trimmings, bushes, and weeds. No palm fronds, cactus, plastic bags, or other yard debris that clogs the chipping machine will be accepted. Standard waste fees will apply which are $2 for passenger car, $5 for pickup truck, $5 for small 8 foot or less trailer, $10 for large trailer more than 8 feet, and $23.50 a ton no matter what the vehicle. Other fees may apply. See PDEQ website at www.deq.pima.gov/waste for additional landfill and transfer station information. No unloading assistance will be provided and commercial yard waste will not be accepted. Tarping the load is suggested, however the green waste must be secured to the vehicle to prevent its escape from the vehicle prior to arrival at the facility. Commercial loads are not accepted at Catalina Transfer Station. Clean green waste is collected all year at the Ina Road Landfill at 5301 W. Ina Rd. from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.
