Mexican Spotted Owl
Strix occidentalis lucida
The Mexican spotted owl is is about
nineteen inches long, with a wingspan over three feet. It has
brown upper-parts spotted with patches of white. The owl has large
dark eyes, and lacks ear tufts. The legs and feet are fully feathered.
The Mexican spotted owl prefers old-growth forests with uneven-age
stands with a high canopy closure, lots of large and small trees,
fallen logs and snags.
