Uncle Tony supplied thick gloves and trash bags, and the school fields and bike trail were quickly cleared of puncturevine.

When they rested under the shade, admiring the many bags they had filled, Tony told them something else about goatheads.

"One time some people imported insects that eat the plant's seeds, hoping to stop this weed," said Tony. "But they also ate the seeds of the beautiful desert wildflower, Arizona Caltrop, which is closely related to puncturevine."

"It was fun to pull them out!" said Steve. "And we'll do it next year, too!"
