Summer Youth Program Success Story

Programs and Services:

How can our organization sponsor a youth employee?

    1.  Organizations can "pledge" jobs for youth at any time during the year. Jobs can be     full time, part time, internships or temporary, depending on your company's needs. These youth employees would be part of your organization's regular staff and payroll system.

    2.  Organizations may also apply to host subsidized youth employees, particularly during June and July. Subsidized employees are temporary (e.g., summer only) and wages are paid by the Pima County ONESTOP system and/or its contractors.  A written agreement is required for subsidized employees.  Summer youth employees can be ages 14-21.

    3.  A third option for employers is the On-the-Job Training (OJT) program. A joint effort between the Pima County ONESTOP system and the employer, OJT provides that employers be reimbursed (on a monthly basis) up to 50% of a referred new hire's wages during the training period when the employer agrees to hire and train the referred worker on one or more new, marketable skills. This will require a written agreement.

    What is a "youth"?

For these programs, a youth is someone between the ages of 14 and 21 (exception Pledge-A-Job: ages 16-21), residing in Pima County, who has applied to the program, been assessed and screened.

    Why get involved?

Scores of young people in Pima County are waiting for an opportunity to learn new skills, to be introduced to the workplace, to have a mentor, and to demonstrate their own unique aptitudes and abilities. Your business can play a key role in helping to prepare the upcoming workforce!
