Preservation

Conservation of our desert environment, riparian areas and wildlife are important to the residents of District Four and to Pima County as a whole. Sensitive areas within District Four include the Tanque Verde Valley, Mt. Lemmon, Vail, the Santa Rita Mountains, and historic Canoa Ranch. Preservation of open space and public lands should be pursued in order to maintain our sensitive desert environment for future generations.

Restrained Growth

Growth and development will continue to occur throughout Pima County. A pragmatic approach to development is necessary if we are to insure that growth pays for itself. Unchecked development causes already limited infrastructure including schools, roadways, parks, public safety, etc. to become stressed and diminishes the quality of life for all residents. A sensible infill program, designed to encourage capital investment within the urban core is necessary if we are to grow responsibly. Alternative land uses on the urban edge should also be encouraged, examples of which include ranches, parks, and low density development which tend to be more compatible with the desert environment while creating a buffer directing growth back to the places skipped over for cheaper land in years past.
