Valencia Road Construction Upgrades are Coming Soon
06.01.2006

District Five residents who use Valencia Road west of Interstate 19 will experience some inconveniences over the coming months as two improvement projects get underway. The first project - on Valencia from I-19 to Mission Road - begins this summer and will take about one year to complete. Valencia in this busy stretch will be widened to six lanes and get sidewalks, bus pullouts, drainage upgrades, new traffic lights and decorative artwork inspired by Tohono O'odham basket patterns on sound walls.

This fall work is to begin on Valencia from Camino de la Tierra to Mark Road. This stretch will go to four travel lanes with a center left-turn lane. Other upgrades include disabled-accessible pedestrian pathways, better drainage, new traffic signals, landscaping and artwork on sound walls - in this case featuring images of hummingbirds and Sonoran Desert plants. This project is expected to require 18 months of work.

During the entire Valencia construction period, all business access will be maintained and traffic lanes will be kept open in each direction.
