Intersection Construction Closes 12th and 10th Avenues, 44th Street

An intersection construction project just getting underway will require the closure of South 10th Avenue between West 44th Street and South 12th Avenue for three weeks, beginning Monday, Aug. 14.
For the first week to 10 days, north-south traffic will be diverted to 44th Street to get around the closure. For the remainder of the three-week period, 44th Street also will be closed between 10th and 12th avenues and north-south traffic will be diverted to West 42nd Street. The closures will affect Sun Tran bus stops and routes, local business access and students going to and from Pueblo High School.
The 10-month project will improve the safety of the intersection where 10th Avenue merges into 12th Avenue just south of 44th Street, across from the Pueblo High sports fields. A landscaped park will be developed in a reconfigured intersection that also will feature pedestrian and bicycle amenities and improved storm-water drainage.
Other road closures will occur during the course of the project, but the times and durations have yet to be determined. Watch this website for updates as work progresses.
The Pima County Department of Transportation is having a public meeting to discuss the initial road closures for affected residents and businesses on Thursday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. in a meeting room at Sam Lena Library, 1607 S. Sixth Ave.
