Message from Community Food Bank:
The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona places 24,000 jars of peanut butter in emergency family food boxes each month. We fill a semi with peanut butter, the favorite food box item of children, every five weeks for distribution in five counties. Each of these food boxes includes one 12 ounce jar of peanut butter per month. Due to the recent droughts and tornadoes in the South, the cost has risen from 99 cents to $1.53 per jar. We are asking the community to organize Peanut Butter Drives to help with these skyrocketing costs.
How to Hold a Peanut Butter Drive (click here for flyer)
We are asking the community to organize Peanut Butter Drives on behalf of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona to help with skyrocketing peanut butter costs.
It’s as easy as making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
The Community Food Bank provides boxes and peanut butter food drive flyers to help with the collection. Food drives can happen at work places, schools, and community events, as well as at parties, potlucks, and family reunions. Your food drive can be as simple as setting out a box at a meeting for an organization that you belong to, or at a special event and inviting people to bring in the peanut butter. Little extras like setting up an incentive or contest connected to donating can really increase the success of the drive. Let people know that we cannot accept glass containers or pre-opened items. If you collect more than 70 jars, we’ll make it easier for you and will pick up your donation.
For more details about setting up a peanut butter drive, contact Jacob Coldsmith at (520) 882-3288. You can also set up an online peanut butter drive by contacting Cecily Urizar-Faught, Webmaster, at (520) 882-3275.
