
Biography
ANN DAY is currently serving her second term as a member of the Pima
County Board of Supervisors representing District 1. Since being elected
on November 7, 2000, she has built a strong reputation as a consensus
builder, working with both Democrats and Republicans on the Board to
find common sense solutions to the problems facing our County.
A leader
on growth issues, economic development, and the environment, Supervisor
Day has represented the Board of Supervisors on the Pima Association
of Governments, and currently represents the Board on the Criminal
Justice Coordinating Council and the Kino Hospital Advisory Board.
Supervisor
Day served in the Arizona State Senate for ten years prior to being
elected to the Board of Supervisors. She served in Senate leadership
as Majority Whip and Chair of the Senate Health Committee and was recognized
for her leadership on health care issues, most notably as an advocate
for cancer patients’ rights to access clinical trial treatments.
HMO reform and the creation of Arizona’s Patient’s Bill
of Rights were among her major accomplishments.
Supervisor Day received
her B.A. in Education from ASU and her M.ED.
in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Arizona. Her professional
experience includes teaching junior high school, and working with families
in crisis as a Marriage and Family Therapist with the Pima County Conciliation
Court. She has been active in our community and has served on various
boards and commissions. She is a Republican precinct committeewoman
in Legislative District 26 and was the first woman appointed to the State
Industrial Commission. She also served as a member of the State Liquor
Board.
The daughter of a pioneering ranching family, Supervisor
Day grew up on the Lazy B Ranch in Eastern Arizona. The working cattle
ranch
was
started by her grandfather in 1880, and was in her family for 114 years.
