Biography

ANN DAY is currently serving her second term as a member of the Pima County Board of Supervisors representing District 1. Since being elected on November 7, 2000, she has built a strong reputation as a consensus builder, working with both Democrats and Republicans on the Board to find common sense solutions to the problems facing our County.

A leader on growth issues, economic development, and the environment, Supervisor Day has represented the Board of Supervisors on the Pima Association of Governments, and currently represents the Board on the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council and the Kino Hospital Advisory Board.

Supervisor Day served in the Arizona State Senate for ten years prior to being elected to the Board of Supervisors. She served in Senate leadership as Majority Whip and Chair of the Senate Health Committee and was recognized for her leadership on health care issues, most notably as an advocate for cancer patients’ rights to access clinical trial treatments. HMO reform and the creation of Arizona’s Patient’s Bill of Rights were among her major accomplishments.

Supervisor Day received her B.A. in Education from ASU and her M.ED. in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Arizona. Her professional experience includes teaching junior high school, and working with families in crisis as a Marriage and Family Therapist with the Pima County Conciliation Court. She has been active in our community and has served on various boards and commissions. She is a Republican precinct committeewoman in Legislative District 26 and was the first woman appointed to the State Industrial Commission. She also served as a member of the State Liquor Board.

The daughter of a pioneering ranching family, Supervisor Day grew up on the Lazy B Ranch in Eastern Arizona. The working cattle ranch was started by her grandfather in 1880, and was in her family for 114 years.
