Graffiti Abatement

Graffiti hurts everyone and contributes to lost revenue, reduced retail sales and declines in property values. Graffiti is blight and brings the fear of gang activity into our neighborhoods. More importantly, residents tend to view graffiti as a sign that the neighborhood has taken a downward spiral. Studies show when graffiti is tolerated, theft, assault and other more serious crimes may go unchallenged.

In May of 2006, I called for a Graffiti Task Force and served on it with representatives from other departments for several months. I'm very pleased that due to numerous meetings and discussions of the Task Force, the Board of Supervisors approved funding in December of 2006 to abate graffiti in the unincorporated areas of Pima County, and adopted a Graffiti Ordinance in March of 2007. With the adoption of this Ordinance and Graffiti Policy, the County will have an effective tool for abating Graffiti on both public and private property. Zero tolerance of Graffiti equates to zero tolerance of blight, crime and harm to our community. With this policy in place, Pima County can now begin to partner with our citizens to abate Graffiti, protect our neighborhoods and maintain our quality of life which we all enjoy.

If you see Graffiti, please call the County hotline at 792-8224 or 792-TAAG to report it. Please join me in helping to keep Pima County Clean and TAAG free.
