LEAVING
CANOA
On October 24, 1775, as the Anza Expedition traveled northward,
the weather and water accessibility affected travel. In his diary,
Anza
noted that the unavailability of water between La Canoa and San Xavier
del Bac posed problems. He had to ensure that the people and the
animals had enough water before they left. In addition, rainy weather
conditions
slowed the departure on this particular day.
In his diary for October 24, 1775, Anza made note of natural conditions
and how these affected the daily routine:
"At seven o’clock today [morning] it began to rain, and
continued until half past ten ... at two o’clock in the afternoon
we set forth on the march, the meadows of the river continuing most
abundant
in good pasturage and other growths."
