Archaeological Photos

This small basement was found beneath
the northeast corner of the historic residence of John and Dolores
Brown at 270 N. Stone. The walls were made of basalt blocks laid
in mortar, while the floor was made of bricks. The basement was
accessed via a small entryway at the back of the house. Sanborn
map depictions of the house do not include the basement, so it
was something of a surprise to the archaeologists.
