Archaeologists found the privy associated
with the historic house at 48 E. Alameda. Here, one of the archaeologists
records the edge of the feature before its excavation begins.
Note the bottle poking out of the privy fill. The feature was
outlined with white spray paint by archaeologists when it was
initially located. When initially located, a feature will show
very clearly as a different soil color that distinguishes the
feature from the surrounding dirt, but as the days go by this
distinction slowly fades.
