Pima County Community and Economic
Development (CED) administers Federal, State and local funds, and
oversees departments and programs to improve
the standard of living for people with lower incomes and people
in rural, unincorporated communities. CED oversees county economic
development and tourism efforts to develop a healthy economy
in partnership with Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities, Inc.
Pima County Community and Economic Development is comprised of
four main departments.
The Community Development and Neighborhood Conservation department’s
mission is to provide resources that strengthen communities and improve
the quality of life. This is done through providing affordable housing,
assisting with community and rural development, encouraging faith-based
and community initiatives and focusing on neighborhood reinvestment
projects.
The Community Resources department focuses on providing recreation,
health services, education, community enrichment and public services
to the citizens of Pima County. The department operates several community
facilities, which include the Kino Community
Center, Tucson Electric Park and Sports Complex, Pima Vocational
High School, and many more.
The Department of Community Services, Employment and Training strives
to provide services that assist local employers, improve the education
and skill level of workers and youth, increase the average household
income, and improve the economic, physical and social well being
of the entire community, with particular focus on lower income neighborhoods
and communities.
The Department of Economic Development and Tourism acts as primary
liaison with the business, academic and tourism community to enhance
the economic well being of the region. The department also provides
business development, marketing, training and revenue enhancement
programs to Pima County’s leased asset partners, such as the
Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Old Tucson Studios, Colossal Cave Mountain
Park, Pima Air and Space Museum, Pima County Fairgrounds, and more.
