Proposed Closure of the Tucson Processing and Distribution Center at the Cherrybell Postal Facility
On December 5, 2011 the U.S. Postal Service announced its intention to proceed with proposed changes to postal service standards that would delay delivery times and consolidate postal facilities nationwide. The Tucson Processing and Distribution Center at the Cherrybell Postal Facility is proposed for closure with services to be moved to Phoenix. The Pima County Board of Supervisors is concerned that these changes would cause significant economic impacts to Pima County, delay identification and treatment of possible anthrax attacks, delay vote by mail ballots, disenfranchise Native American voters on the Tohono O'odham Nation, delay time sensitive court hearing and victim notifications, delay timely mail delivery to and from service members at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and Fort Huachuca, delay prescription drug delivery, and eliminate local bulk mailing discounts. On December 13, 2011 the U.S. Postal Service announced it would delay the closure of mail processing facilities until May 1, 2012 to provide Congress time to consider comprehensive postal reform legislation.

Wireless radio project will improve public safety countywide
Pima County, Ariz. – In 2008, a 25-year-old man led police and sheriff's deputies on a zig-zag car chase that began on the northwest side of Tucson and ended on Mount Lemmon, with one Tucson Police officer fatally wounded and two Pima County Sheriff's deputies injured. The two deputies survived. Throughout that deadly chase, police and deputies weren't able to talk to each other on the same radio frequency.
The incident highlighted a serious flaw in emergency communications that is now being corrected by Pima County. The outdated radio systems being used by most first responders will be old news by 2013, when the county's new public safety Wireless Integrated Network, funded by bonds approved by voters in 2004, is expected to begin operation. Understanding Your Property Tax Bill
On September 9 Pima County began mailing approximately 451,000 property tax bills for the various property taxing jurisdictions within the County.
Today, there are 95 separate levies for the different taxing jurisdictions: school districts, fire districts, the City of Tucson, Pima Community College and numerous other special districts. The County is responsible for only four of the 95 different tax levies that may be assessed against your property. Hence your tax bill will vary depending on where you live.
In the interest of helping residents understand the various taxing categories they may see on their bill, Pima County has created an online property tax tutorial. For further details, visit http://www.pima.gov/taxes/. |

Pima County Multi-Species Conservation Plan (MSCP)
In early December 2010, Pima County submitted an Administrative Draft of the Multi-Species Conservation Plan for administrative review by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Once Pima County and the USFWS agree to the terms and conditions of the Permit, the County will have achieved a significant milestone in providing regulatory certainty for the County and much of the development community with regard to the compliance with the Endangered Species Act.
